Deviation Magnification: Revealing Departures from Ideal Geometries

Wednesday, 04 November: 16:15 - 18:00

Structures and objects are supposed to have idealized geometries such as straight lines or circles. However, these objects sometimes deviate from their idealized models in a subtle way. We reveal such geometric deviations by magnifying them, revealing the sagging and tilting of buildings, distortions in Saturn's rings and more.
