Innovation in the Age of Virtual Reality through Organizing International Student Competition


In this Education Workshop, attendees will learn efforts of promoting Virtual Reality and Interactive Technologies in education from prominent Japanese researchers. Attendees also will be able to experience actual student Virtual Reality projects from IVRC, International Collegiate Virtual Reality Contest. The competition started in the 1993 and has grown to the oldest and one of the most successful Virtual Reality competitions in the world. The workshop features a presentation by Susumu Tachi, Tokyo University Professor of Emeritus, who has been the general chair of the IVRC. Professor Susumu Tachi will present this student competition’s outline and its 22 years of history. The organizer, Akihiko Shirai and his colleagues, Prof. Masahiko Inami and Shoichi Hasegawa, who has reformed and internationalized the competition, and past participants of the competition, will share his experience with the competition through visual records from the past and demonstrations of actual works from the recent competition with other experts.

This session will include actual demonstration of 4 students projects, “CHILDHOOD”, “VibroSkate”, “Manga Generator” and “TagCandy”. Attendees will be able to experience these works in person.
