Perceptual Models of Preference in 3D Printing Direction

Wednesday, 04 November: 14:15 - 16:00

We introduce a perceptual model for determining 3D printing orientations. 3D printers require robust support structures at overhangs, and often residual material remains even after supports have been removed, resulting in unsightly surface artifacts. We present a method to find printing directions that avoid placing supports in perceptually significant regions.
